There are many different types of number sequences, three of the most common of which include arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, and Fibonacci sequences. In a number sequence, the order of the sequence is important, and depending on the sequence, it is possible for the same terms to appear multiple times. The individual elements in a sequence is often referred to as term, and the number of terms in a sequence is called its length, which can be infinite. Accordingly, a number sequence is an ordered list of numbers that follow a particular pattern. In mathematics, a sequence is an ordered list of objects. Enrollment in MATH 202 requires credit for second semester calculus (Math 22, 112L, 122L, or 122) on your Duke transcript.Example: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 11, 13. (***) - MATH 202 is intended only for economics majors, and does not satisfy the multivariable requirement for majors in math, physics, engineering, or other majors. Enrollment in MATH 212 requires credit for second semester calculus (Math 22, 112L, 122L, or 122) on your Duke transcript. Students are advised though to take MATH 212 only if they do not need linear algebra, or if it is necessary due to a scheduling problem. (**) - MATH 212 however should satisfy requirements very similarly to MATH 219 and MATH 222. (*) - Math majors can take MATH 218, but should first read the additional related requirements on the list of requirements for the math major. You must get written permission from the Director of Undergraduate Studies of the appropriate department before you skip any such required course. Enrollment in and successful completion of a higher level course CANNOT be assumed to satisfy a requirement of a lower level course, and very often it will not. Those math requirements are overseen and enforced by those departments – not the Department of Mathematics. Students who hope to skip any math course should be sure to consider carefully the math requirements of their likely majors, minors, and certificate plans. May Be Good Choices for These Majors (*See Major Requirement note below) In spring semesters MATH 112L will be the only second-semester calculus course offered and will be open to any students with AP credit for MATH 21 or Duke credit for MATH 106L or 111L. NOTE: * In fall semesters, MATH 112L is reserved for continuing students who have taken MATH 106L or MATH 111L. Starting Point A lab-calculus version of Calculus II (MATH 122L) is intended for students with AP credit for MATH 21.
